🌻 Hi hello and salutations! Welcome to Wish A Good Fish: a small fishing game made out of the themes that you have selected: Fish, moon and sandwich. Quite an odd but quirky combination, if I must repeat! Before we kick off, there are a few questions I’d like to ask:

assigning taylor swift songs to bridgerton couples (part 1)

with explanations that no one asked for (proceed with caution)

part 2 for e, f, g and h

so i’ve been going kinda crazy about bridgerton the past few weeks, i read (and reread) all eight books and at some point while reading i couldn't stop trying to find taylor songs in my mind which would fit each couple. so i chose two songs for every pair, some of these have actual thought behind them, others are mostly based on vibes. i hope you enjoy this unhinged tangent <3

anthony & kate - i was actually reading gregory’s book when this completely genius thought hit me - treacherous IS the kanthony song. i mean it starts with “put your lips close to mine as long as they don’t touch”. insert a picture of any one of the hundred times they almost kissed in the show. even the build up of the song reminds me so much of the slow burn we had in the series. also lyrics like “i hear the sound of my own voice asking you to stay” (anthony being “what?? no!!! you can’t go back to india. wtf do you mean you’re not staying once edwina marries???”),  “and all we are is skin and bone trained to get along forever going with the flow but you're friction” through the lens of kanthony i see this line as them just constantly aggravating each other.

the second song for them is dancing with our hands tied. i hadn’t thought about this song in a criminally long time. oh boy. (i also just now realised how long this post is gonna be) “i, i loved you in secret, first sight, yeah we love without reason” i’m sorry but these dumb bitches were in love since that first fateful early morning horse ride you can’t convince me otherwise. “people started talking, putting us through our paces // but we were dancing, dancing with our hands tied, hands tied” this screams when they got caught and were forced to marry in the book. their hands were tied - they had no other choice but to marry but they were dancing because they actually did love each other (awww). other than that there are two lines that sort of go hand in hand - “i loved you in spite of deep fears that the world would divide us” and “i'm a mess, but i'm the mess that you wanted” in my head this is from anthony’s perspective. him dealing with his fear of morality and losing kate and while kate does have the eldest daughter syndrome, anthony is the bigger mess of a person in the relationship.

benedict & sophie - enchanted is a no brainer, it needs no explanation. now for their second song i picked the lakes. this resides in the vibes category. listening to this i can’t help but imagine benophie living an artsy quiet life in my cottage. i’m actually interested to see how their living situation will play out in the show because i feel in the books benedict wasn’t as involved in the ton. i guess it’s just a bit hard for me to envision show!ben being so chill about moving to some place in the middle of nowhere. 

colin & penelope - of course, dress. i listened to this on repeat while reading the whole book in one sitting. honestly a marvellous experience, can’t recommend enough . for the second song i had to go looking, had to travel far like colin one might say. and once i arrived in the long forgotten country of taylor’s debut album i found a piece of music so clearly polin coded that it’s baffling this fandom isn’t talking about it. the song in question is  i’m only me when i’m with you. it feels silly to explain this one because being from taylor’s early career the lyrics aren’t terribly clever so let’s focus on the chorus. “i'm only up when you're not down, don't wanna fly if you're still on the ground” some people want colin to be just ken in the show but i actually really liked how they both have a career in writing at the end of the book (penelope better had published the book she started writing). “the other half i'm only trying to let you know that what i feel is true and i'm only me when i'm with you” you can’t tell me this isn’t colin telling penelope she is beautiful over and over again and how much he loves him because he was a fool not to realise it sooner. while in the book penelope feeling like she is truly confident and herself around colin, i think in the show this line works from colin’s side just as well. 

daphne & simon - while most of the fandom has crowned wildest dreams as the saphne anthem (taylor’s version), i just couldn’t get behind it. yes, they used the song in their season but in my mind it just does not embody their relationship. firstly, the great war, i mean the first line “my knuckles were bruised like violets”. simon… boxing… you see the connection, right? okay, i promise it gets (even) better. “and maybe it's the past that's talking, screaming from the crypt. telling me to punish you for things you never did” in case of simon, he was hanging on to his hate towards his father and refusing to have kids with daphne, punishing her while it wasn’t her fault what had happened to him as a child. “somewhere in the haze, got a sense i’d been betrayed” i hate this part of their stroy (i do not condone daphne’s actions) yet i can so clearly picture simon still partly on his high of pleasure but starting to realise what daphne had done to him. i think i like this as their song because well they both were all kinds of wrong in this situation and at the end of the song it’s acknowledged “there's no morning glory, it was war, it wasn't fair” and still it has a happy ending just like saphne. their second song was hard to find and i’m not a hundred percent sure about it but a present to you so it goes…  “all eyes on us, you make everyone disappear” - season 1, episode 1 “stare into my eyes”. i felt i needed to give them a sexy song and i do feel like it matches their sexual tension but this one is definitely up for debate.

I actually have my own private playlist (forgot I had one lmao) of this fic!! I do recommend giving these songs a chance because not only are they good, they are some of my main inspiration for writing some scenes. The lyrics fit the story line for real! TRUST! Idk if it was obvious, but I do title my chapters after song lyrics that fit the chapter vibes lolol. Anyways!!!

Bad Habits - Steve Stacy [This song is actually my main inspiration for the fic title. I had this idea in my head for so long, then this song came into my shuffle as I was driving and thinking of it, and then I was like “you know what, I AM writing and publishing this fic.” The title is a play in words. I mentioned this in my notes before but the phrase “I bite my tongue” is when someone holds their words or stops themselves from saying what they want, which is the main theme of the story. But I thought it was funny to say “I bit” instead because it’s silly to think someone wanting to say something so bad and then they just bite their tongue by accident. “Loser Stan,” I whisper into the void]

IFHY - Tyler, The Creator [This story has a lot of themes of jealousy so how could I NOT add this! I was actually listening to this song as I was writing chapter 6, and it even inspired the title for it! I mainly was thinking of this song in Stan’s POV, especially in that scene with Craig and Kyle, but the more you learn about Kyle’s character and POV in future chapters, you start to realize that this song really fits him too. Jealous Stan but possessive Kyle anyone? LET ME COOK]

Come Here - Dominic Fike [Im pretty sure this counts as spoilers but not really, but this song is the inspiration for chapter 11’s title! We’re still in Kyle’s POV and I feel like it really fits his desire for Stan in his POV. Plus, this song might be short but it’s one hell of a banger! 10/10]

Mistakes Like This - Prelow [Love this song for real! I feel like some of the lyrics could fit IBMT Stan but others fit Kyle more, in the end, I decided to settle to Kyle’s POV. Actually, this one is the inspo for chapter 9’s title!It talks about drunken love spurs so it’s immediately STYLE coded to me!!!]

Structure - Odd Sweetheart [YES!!!! This is the song that was sang in chapter 8 and there was even a whole ass animatic MADE with it! Yay, thank you Lyn!! And of course, it’s also the chapter’s title! BUT SERIOUSLY— Stan singing this song as he’s realizing his feelings for Kyle!!! I JUST- Auuuugghh!! I hate those idiots in love!]

Let’s Go - Stuck in the Sound [Yet another song that gets sang on chapter 8! This is actually the first song they play in their garage performance setlist because I feel like the lyrics really paint a picture to Stan’s dilemma in the beginning of the story to his now, current state. Yeah, you know that scene, mhm mhm🙂‍↕️, Stan was singing this babey!! It fits IBMT and it’s an actual head banger? 😎HELL YEAH]

I Got Drunk - Miya Folick [I LOVE MIYA FOLICK and I LOVE this song!! It’s STYLE coded and genuinely so freaking underrated!!! Any scenario where Stan gets drunk and confesses his feelings for Kyle is deadass THIS song!! I kinda want to write a one shots out of this one on god! EVERY STYLE SHIPPER SHOULD LISTEN TO IT! I PROMISE ITS THEM! IN THIS ESSAY-]

SO YES!! This song 100% DOES fit!!

I Want You - Mitski: I love Mitski so much! I do believe it fits them but I don’t know who’s POV exactly cuz it could go either or, so please let me know your opinion! I do love the inclusion of First Love/Late Spring, Stan’s POV goes BRRR on that one! What do you think of Old Friend being in Stan’s POV and Why Didn’t You Stop Me? being Kyle’s POV? 👀 I think it fits hehe. Shame is also a good one and I was actually listening to it as I was writing chapter 5 (you can actually tell because I hinted the lyrics in the first couple of paragraphs of it haha). Go figures!! As you can tell, I have a lot of Mitski songs in my library because my bestie is a BIG fan of hers, so she’s always listening to her. They really need to fix their shit so they can go back to being all cringe and lovey dovey!!! I’m getting pissed off, maybe I SHOULD finish writing chapter 11!!

A New Kind Of Love - Frou Frou ft. Imogen Heap & Guy Sigsworth: Another fun fact! This song is also on my IBMT playlist! I love Imogen Heap so much!! I have some of her other songs on my other fic/character playlists too!

3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

in defense of my own happiness. it started out as just a vibes fic and then oops it developed some plot, but the plot is still subtle enough to mostly rely on vibes. i always want to make sure i hit vibes harder than plot (because that's always how i get inspired to write a fic in the first place), and i think this is the story i've been most successful at with that.

6. Favorite title you used

considering i only wrote two fics in 2023, and one of them was an albumfic whose title is the name of the album, that actually is my favorite title. for me, "in defense of my own happiness" is a sentiment that really fits both ava and beatrice—ava, for how effusively she feels joy in spite of so much tragedy/loss; and beatrice, for how she's leaning into joy because of ava and in spite of many years repressing it.

18. The character that gave you the most trouble writing this year?

beatrice! i tried to overcome that by writing her in second person but she's still so nuanced and not as immediately accessible as ava. when i'm writing a chapter from her pov, i always have to wait until i "hear" an opening line or else i won't find the rhythm of her voice.

29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?

i was gonna say something from in defense, but i think actually there was a bit from a smaller oneshot that i enjoyed more.

You could scream about how much you love Beatrice, and she’s stopped you from doing exactly that more than once. One of these days you’ll wear her down. “I love you,” you say, an answer to a question Beatrice hasn’t asked. “Ah.” Her eyes twinkle, and her nose scrunches, and she smiles just a little, quirked at the corners and very pleased. “Do you need to take a break to address that?” “Won’t that mess up your film-watching routine?” “I love you, too,” is all she says. You just have to, like, sit with that.

ava of the show so clearly loves beatrice but also stops herself from actively expressing or leaning into those feelings. one of the things i love most about both of them together is that they give each other space to feel and process, whether that's a separate or shared activity. it just warms my heart to imagine, once they get to be the post-war versions of themselves, that beatrice recognizes implicitly that sometimes ava just needs a moment to feel her Big feelings.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

this one i'm gonna actually answer for 2024, even though i haven't published anything yet, but—i feel like for a while i was getting stuck into the sameness of fandoms that dried up quickly and it kind of took a lot of motivation out of the ol' writing sails. so binging agatha all along, absolutely devouring every single fic i could, it was really nice to be reminded that actually, yes; i can still have that feverish, gremlin energy for something new. and not only that, but it will bleed motivation into old projects, too. slower than i'd like! but it's happening. i have [checks spreadsheet] four tabs for agatha/rio fics i'd like to write, and i have a feeling it'll happen in the near future.

8. What’s your favorite work you posted this past year?

Probably Starmaps And Hyperspace Eyes, I did love a lot of the work I did for Whumptober but everything just came together so nicely on this one back in June, I struck all the Vibes I was going for, the imagery evoked exactly what I wanted, it fit the song that was its inspiration, it was beautiful and heartwarming, and I even still managed to sneak in some little juicy bits of Ezra peril.

11. Do you have playlists for any of your fics/wips?

Unsurprisingly Little Wooden Lightsaber Boy was written while listening to the Nutcracker Ballet so several cues from it fit certain scenes perfectly lol.

14. Give us a sneak peek of one of your upcoming works!

Okay so this is from the crack!fic that's been giving me headaches (finally made it past the trouble chapter so hopefully things'll be downhill from here) where the Falcon, the Ghost, and the Mantis all descend at once on the same Imperial facility. I'm mostly happy with this section so it's probably not gonna change much when it's eventually published:

Yavin IV - Massassi Temple - Office of Mon Mothma - Mission Debriefing 8.4 hours after "The Incident" There was a dull pressure pulling at the undersides of Senator Mon Mothma's forehead, as she carefully set her freshly-brewed cup of hot Chandrillan herbal tea on the desk in front of her. (Extra strength tension tamer, an expensive blend.) She sank into her seat with a weary, kind of bone-tired exhaustion. The kind of exhaustion she used to get back in her Senate days when Palpatine called them all into the chamber for one of his long dramatic speeches to "motivate" them to vote for his latest pet tyranny measure. (By the galaxies could that shriveled prune drone on and on!) The kind of exhaustion she'd felt after laboring twenty-six hours (by herself, with no medication thank you so much, Perrin, you were a big help) giving birth to Leida. That kind of exhaustion. Exhaling heavily, she spoke. "All right," she said. "Let's go over everything again, just to be sure we have it all straight." She glanced up at the three sheepish-looking women seated across from her: a green-skinned Twi'lek pilot, a young, composed Alderaanian princess, and a lady in plainclothes of varying browns and tans--who all seemed in that moment much less like the brave and competent Rebel leaders they were and much more like juvenille delinquents having a conference with the principal to discuss the terms of their detention. The three exchanged chagrined glances.

All houses are living creatures of chaos, when you get down to it.

There are many arts I'm not great at. Most fiber crafts for one. Watercolor painting, two. Interior design, big time. Like, I'm not going to let my house get filthy, and I'm going to keep everything running to the best of my ability. (Hell, there's something empowering about replacing a toilet's float!) But, by nature? I'm just about keeping things picked up and in general functional order. If you're gonna ask me about what's fashionable when it comes to interior decorating, you're going to get a response that looks like something out of a 1970s Sears catalog. I'm about being functional, economical, and comfy when it comes to my house. Not cool or trendy.

Cool people don't have a wood-paneled basement, oak-laminate particleboard cabinets, or CRT television sets.

Since I'm an aficionado for mid-to-late century American interiors (and the weird vibes they can produce), I tend to follow blogs online that showcase such rooms that still exist in the modern era. Two such blogs include Unteriors and Roomhole. As a response to Unteriors, another blog called Unteriors-In-House-Flipper-2 has crossed my dashboard from time to time. Their skill in rendering such locations is shockingly good. Like, I think you could trick people into thinking these were real-world images. As someone who has dinked around with a few 3D editors, I was fascinated about the tool they were using. What was "House Flipper 2"? How could its users make something that looked so good so fast?

Well, practice is an obvious answer. Familiarity with the tools. A good understanding of lighting, too. But, having the tool be pretty good to begin with also helps!

As the name implies, "House Flipper 2" is a design tool/game that simulates the reconstruction (or straight up construction) of various spaces. You can do this either to your own whims or to those of various clients in the game's story mode. While a person can just dive right into a sandbox and mess around with tools as they see fit, the story mode does give structure and context to how each tool works. The plot there is nothing to write home about, but the houses themselves…man. No shit "Crime Scene Cleaner" is a game that exists. Garbage-based jump scares abound, and I'm not just talking about the awful wallpaper your character's parents keep putting up.

Hmm. Both "House Flipper 2" and "Crime Scene Cleaner" are under the Playway publisher page in Steam. The games have different developers, but I do wonder if their staff members were talking to each other. Perhaps even sharing employees…

If a player is hoping to get something a little deeper than an HGTV television show in terms of plot, they may come away disappointed from "House Flipper 2." I'm not saying that a person can't draw their own conclusions from the details they find around the house they are cleaning. (I'm pretty sure a couple was copulating in the bathroom at one house concert, for one.) You're just not going to deal with anything more complicated than cleaning up a house post-flood. Which, trust me. At the risk of beating a dead horse, I have a lot of empathy for that. But, it's not exactly navigating the factional relationships between Pinnacove town citizens and designer corporation Accenzo, like being in some kind of housing-based "Shin Megami Tensei" RPG. It's just generally trying to make people happier.

I mean, if we're being super honest, most of them pissed me off via jealousy over familial/economic stability and being able to pursue their own dreams. But, I did think it was pretty cool that one of my clients had vitiligo. I mean, I guess all video games with Michael Jackson in them also star someone with vitiligo, but that's a unique and thoughtful design choice.

To complete your jobs, you get (or gain access to) the following options:

Hands (for moving objects around)

Flipper Tool (responsible for selling or duplicating items, as well as changing their appearance post-purchase or copying their style)

Collecting Trash

Cleaning (for stains and windows)

Vacuuming

Demolishing (for wrecking walls)

Building (for building walls)

Edit Wiring (to hook your electronics up to switches)

Surface Finishes (for tiling, wood, and wallpaper)

Painting

Most are intuitive, once you get access to them. The more you use them, the more perks and abilities you can unlock for them. Since there's not a great real-world equivalent for the Flipper Tool, that one may take a little more time to get used to. Just remember that it has a submenu for selecting its various features, and you should be good to go.

Client demands are highlighted on your tool wheel with yellow exclamation points. Getting into your quest menu will also show you an itemized list of tasks to perform. When you have a tool selected, you can hit a Flipper Sense button to have what needs to be acted on highlighted in yellow. Very handy, especially when you can't see what to destroy or clean up.

Usually, you'll have the best luck doing the following in order:

Sell off unwanted stuff.

Bag trash.

Vacuum.

Clean stains.

Clean windows.

Paint.

Resurface walls and floors.

Buy wanted stuff (and arrange as desired.)

Unpack boxes (for stuff the client has already purchased.)

Some of your objectives get hidden behind furniture, so be sure to fling that aside if you get stumped. Might as well spam the Flipper Sense, too. You do get points for it, after all!

The only "threat" you have is your budget. I put that in quotes because, assuming you are following the client's requests, you should never go anywhere near running out of money. Even in your own projects, you can repeat previous jobs to get more cash, should you get in a pinch. Just put in enough attention and elbow grease to max out your job to three stars, then cash out.

You do get into a lull, working through those jobs. At a certain point, you may hit a level of brain fatigue with redesigning whatever items your customers want you to purchase and just give into their requests, regardless of how you feel about the style of the products you are purchasing. The game's just checking that you made the right purchases, not that you placed them well or used a certain style. Perhaps this brain fatigue is what makes coming across a junked-up room all the more shocking. You're just trying your best with making an efficient, pleasant space, and wham! Thirteen pizza boxes chucked across an attic space, complete with grease stains sinking into the hard wood floors. Like, there's worse things to find in a house. I've seen worse in real life. But, it doesn't mean that it didn't make me curse or shudder.

Man, though. I get where real-life house flippers just keep doing the same crap over and over again. White walls and gray laminate floors aren't just the results of creative bankruptcy and penny pinching. It's also mental fatigue and executive dysfunction.

Additionally, the game will occasionally treat you with a furniture assembling mini-game. Successfully getting at least 2 stars on your assembled product will grant you a small discount to purchased items of that class in game (somewhere between 2-6%, depending on the difficulty of the item in question.) They work well enough, despite some arguments I had with the game's camera. Whoever made the time limits to beat on those mini-missions needs to have some kind of intervention for whatever stimulants they are abusing, though. Like hell I'm repeating something that took me 20 minutes to put together just because they think it can be done in 15.

You can also platform across "Floor is Lava" maps, but man. I'm just here to fix up houses.

If you did want to cut out the story and get right to the point, a sandbox mode is available for you. The tools aren't an exact 1 to 1 with the tools you get in the story mode, but there's enough overlap that playing the story mode will help you out here. Additionally, there are tools for assigning quests, jobs, etc. in the event that you want to upload your map to mod.io and have other players play your map. You can also control the lawn growth and punch holes in the map, which man! Would have I liked those options in the main game.

When you are allowed to take full control over a house and exercise your skills, you will likely be happy with the variety of colors, textures, and items to play with. The furniture is somewhat restricted to modern creations akin to something you'd find in IKEA or on Wayfair, with only select deviations made for the occasional appliance to look mid-century modern. (Which, for someone who has a fair amount of CRT television sets around the house, is a bit of a bummer. The one CRT they have in game is just not the vibe I'm going for, either.) Each furniture item and texture set can be dyed in at least three sets of color styles separated by vibrance, sometimes also coming with different pattern, wood, or metal types. In the right circumstances, you can also use photos off your own computer for additional artwork! For someone that remembers the more static days of the original Sims release, it's particularly impressive! Significantly fewer dead people around, too.

I'm always amused when guys discover exactly what gals did in "The Sims" games. Those games were pool-based slaughterhouses. Girls had to get their cool graveyards somehow.

When I had hiccups with the game, I could get around most obstacles by figuring out how to talk to the game in its own logic. Like, once I removed a timber log to paint behind it, then had to resize said log into a sliver to get it back into place, then resize it once more to its original size. Hooking up electrical wiring also wasn't explicitly taught, but I figured it out after messing around with light settings in a ranch house. The only problems I had that couldn't be fixed were being unable to cut triangular shapes out of bricks or placing bricks down in spots where the game arbitrarily said no. Annoying? Sure. But, that's a surprisingly low limitation.

Although, it would have been nice to be able to manually freeze items into a single group. Or, just have a bunch of items for purchase as a group. (Like, I'm talking having a block of books instead of having to arrange one at a time. I suppose you could put them onto a tray, move them, then delete the tray, but man. That feels weird.) Also, it's kind of weird that there are so many toys, but not a generic teddy bear or doll. Like, there's action figures for fake games, but not much in the way for dolls or stuffed animals. I don't know. Just seems like a thing kids would have.

Another weird thing—I ended up having this intermittent input issue with a Nintendo Switch controller that I was using from time to time. For whatever reason, right stick input would lock into a counter-clockwise circle, and I'd have to shake it out of that bad behavior. I doubt many people are using Switch controllers for PC gaming, but hey. Guess I’m weird like that. (I didn't have any issues with an Xbox 360 controller or the standard keyboard and mouse, for what that's worth.)

"House Flipper 2" is an awesome tool that happens to have a decent game mode attached to it. I am wondering how this could be used more as a partner tool or competitor to something like Sketchup more than expanding the boundaries and lore of Pinnacove. I imagine an average interior designer could get a lot of use out of something like "House Flipper 2," even if that's not the exact purpose of it. A person is never going to get exact furniture matches with it, but I imagine you could at least mock up a room relatively quickly with it. To those in the right industry, that might be pretty neat.

The base price for "House Flipper 2" is around $39.99 with a bonus DLC Starter Pack for $9.99. I suspect this price may change depending on how many people they want/need to pull in for co-op playtesting, so watch for any potential sales. I'm not exactly certain how many of my readers would be into building homes and decorating them, so for them, this may be too expensive. But, hey. It's important to engage in non-violent, constructive play, from time to time. This is a good way to do just that.

Although, if an option opens up to smash some digital NIMBY or HOA president's car in with a sledgehammer, I'm all for that, too. Gotta make this housing market more affordable somehow.

Hi! Random question, but how do anthologies work? Do you have to have friends who ask you to be part of theirs? Should I tell my agent I'm interested if she hears about any, or is that not how it works? And then also, when does the publisher get involved? Does someone come up with the idea and pitch it, then add authors after the deal or is it written with specific authors on board before? Thanks!

You can certainly tell your agent you are interested in being part of an anthology if they hear about something appropriate -- it doesn't happen THAT often, but sometimes, particularly if it is somebody AT OUR AGENCY who is putting it together, the agent for that project might say "Hey, we are brainstorming lists of possible contributors to this thing -- does anyone have a trans or nonbinary YA author that loves Horses?" or whatever. We're happy to throw your name in the ring if something like that comes up. But usually authors (or their agents) are approached directly by the Anthology Editor (more on that below) - either because the Antho Editor knows them, or knows OF them/their work, and it seems to be an appropriate fit for whatever the age and theme of that particular Antho is.

It's more about what you write and if you are a fit, and especially if you at least have something of a "name" and are likely to bring readers to the book, than if you are friends with the editor. In other words, if it's an anthology about Nonbinary Teen Horse Aficianados, they are going to be looking for people who NB and into horses and good at writing / known for YA books, whether or not they know them personally. If you are a cis man best known for writing picture books about dolphins, you probably aren't getting tapped for that anthology, even if the editor is your BFF.

As for how it works -- well, you HAVE to know I'm gonna say "it depends", right??? LOL.

An Anthology could happen in other ways, but GENERALLY SPEAKING, an author has an idea for an anthology that they want to be in charge of. That person is called the Editor of the anthology -- though there will also be an Editor at the publisher, of course, the Editor of the anthology is in charge of corralling all the authors, getting them paid in whatever way they are being paid, making sure that the stories pass the vibe check, etc etc.

They'll decide what the theme will look like, what kinds of stories will be included, etc, and think of a dream list of contributors. The ones they know personally or have a connection to, they might pitch the idea to, just to see if those people might be interested enough for them to put their names down as being on board (though they might wait until it is actually sold to reach out to EVERYone, it's just nice to have some commitments prior to pitching it!)

They'll make an Anthology Proposal, complete with list of tentative contributors. They/their agent pitches the anthology proposal to editors/publishers who might be interested in such a thing. Hopefully, one of them wants to pay for it. When/if that happens, the list of contributors will be finalized, etc etc.

There are different ways that the Anthology Editor and Contributors might be paid, but in pretty much every event, it's the Anthology Editor who is the contracted party with the publisher, and it is their responsibility to get contributor agreements to all the authors involved, chase the authors, distribute payments, etc. (It's a lot of work that seems quite terrible to ME, but hey, some authors seem to love it.)

Sometimes the Editor is paid a larger percentage -- say, 50% -- and the rest of the advance and royalties are split pro rata amongst the contribs -- sometimes everyone is given some kind of flat fee -- sometimes it's a charity thing and the authors just get a token amount or nothing and the proceeds go to the charity -- and I'm sure there are other ways it might be dealt with, too, those are just the ones I've seen.

i appreciate the message and you weren't the only person to say this, but i think some people are only part-way informed as to her journey reclaiming her name. her intention was never to scrap the nickname shappi or stop people from calling her that; it was 1) to reconcile her experience growing up in the uk with her name and how that led to her committing to shappi as a teen, and 2) to be published, credited, and billed as shaparak in professional capacities. she has clarified many times, including here and here, that it is totally acceptable to call her shappi; people on tv & radio still call her shappi after formal introductions, like in the new wilty when everyone calls her shappi throughout the entire episode; her social media handles are still shappi; and so on. she's shaparak, but that doesn't mean she "no longer goes by shappi". there is some confusion here i think some people are taking her journey, which was lovely to follow, as rejecting shappi — but that isn't the case.

i already updated her tag to 'shaparak khorsandi' a while ago and would definitely credit her full name where necessary, but socially, colloquially, like in the quick text post i made asking people to give shappi some love, there is no disrespect in calling her that! of course, plenty of people are credited by one name and are regularly called another/a nickname, like olivia colman who is actually called sarah by her family and colly by most everyone else. she seems really happy with having done her book and her recent show under her full name, and it's been beautiful to see her come around to love shaparak as much as she has loved shappi :')

2. Do you plan each chapter ahead or write as you go?

Oh, I absolutely have to outline before I write. Pantsless writers, you terrify me (affectionate). It's not anything very formal, like I'm not doing bullet lists, it's much more stream of consciousness mixed in with me congratulating me on good ideas that get me out of problems I create for myself. It's very chaotic 😂 See below, part of my outline for I am tired, I am yours, where I outright ask myself for help

18. Do you title your fics before, during, or after the writing process? How do you come up with titles?

It varies! If I'm writing a sequel to something, I'll often have the title picked out before I finish the piece just to keep it thematically tied to the first one. In my Vianton fics, they're all named from Brandi Carlile songs (listen, she's the first person to admit her love songs are fucked up and it fits the Big emotions of a vampire and a werewolf okay I don't make the rules), and the sequel to my actual!KrakenEd fic was pulled from a poem I used a lot as inspiration for the first fic. Sometimes titles come to me in the middle of a piece, sometimes I'm ready to publish and going ".... oh right. Title. For the fic. The fic's title. The title to go on the fic."

I usually pull from poetry or songs for fic titles, but I have some delightful notable exceptions:

-sin is sacred again is titled from the marketing copy from Kraken Rum. No really. I'm not bullshitting you. Go look.

46. How would you describe your style? (Character/emotion/action-driven, etc)

Ooooo, definitely emotion-driven, but rooted in the characters? Like, I want my writing to evoke emotions, and I write from a very personal place and put a lot of my own heart into my writing, but I also try really hard to make sure that it's rooted in the characters.

Very much how I approach any characters I've ever played too, I think. Like, I bring my own knowledge of the world and of feelings to any part I play, but at the end of the day.... I am NOT a water spirit or an owl or a grad student, and I need to find that character's truth and imagine outside of it, and I try to do that with fic as well. I want to bring what I find compelling to Ed or Stede, but I want to translate it through their characters to make it authentic and fulfilling to THEM.

ahhh hello!! i would love to, because i've been really enjoying aus lately :D i haven't been reading as much fic as in the past because i've been trying to get through some books on my tbr list (of which there are too many, though i did finish one today!), but when i have been reading fics, it's been aus mainly!!

tip-toeing on lily-pads by my beloved @cherryisgone. you might think i'm biased because it was given to me, and you would be correct in thinking that, but also, it's just?? so good?? the pining is off the charts, plus it's a kind of princess and the frog concept with prince Will and knight Mike. the writing is beautiful and has this lovely water imagery woven throughout it that i absolutely adored. idk what more someone could ask for tbh (except maybe a pt. 2 👀👉🏻👈🏻)

a new fight series by tea_for_one_please. this is a wonderful star wars au that does a fantastic job of weaving the main party members into the star wars universe and lore. i read it intermittently while i was visiting friends last month and really enjoyed my time with it. also, it's so well-written that i didn't realize how long the whole series was? apparently the entire series is the length of a book and i just. didn't know this until a few days ago lol. so yes, this one's fun for star wars/sci-fi vibes!!

fireball him! (cast protection) by @willow-lark. i'm a sucker for fantasy aus and this one is soooo so good!! again, maybe i'm biased because one of my stories is listed as inspiration, but i loved this thing. i saw it was posted last week while i was at work, and the second i got to take my lunch break, i flopped onto my couch to read it and was not disappointed. wonderful writing and an ending that left me with my jaw dropped. not that i'm still thinking about it :')

the manuscript by whereyouare. i'm humbly begging everyone to read this one because it's premise is just too good to pass up. it's an au where there's no Upside Down/supernatural stuff from the actual show. Will is a sci-fi author, and his publisher tells him his upcoming book is too cynical and the ending needs to be changed. it's such an interesting study of Will and refreshing take on his character, mostly because he's just...so cynical in this one? idk, maybe that's not for everyone, but i've enjoyed seeing a potential future Will where living in a small town and being in love with his (supposedly) straight best friend have hardened him more. it's fascinating and fun, so i highly recommend it!

warm by @notebooknonbinary. this one's a short fantasy au, but it's so sweet and soft. like i said, i'm a sucker for fantasy aus and have been writing with them a lot lately, so i always enjoy when i find a good one, and this one definitely fits the bill!

daydream by disaster_energy. this is a really fun d&d au where Will gets chosen by the moon goddess and Mike chooses to pledge to her paladin order. i especially loved the world-building in this one because it kinda reminded me of the percy jackson series - it was a perfect melding of a fantasy world with a modern one. plus it had plenty of pining, and i'll never complain about that lol

the vale of shadows by sevensided. another fantasy au!! this is the third installment in the dark mirror trilogy, which is one of my favorite things i've read ever in my life, fic or otherwise. i'm in love with this third installment and the recent update it got - the most recent 4 chapters have the perfect cottagecore vibes that made me melt. i love this whole series with all of my heart, and i'm so glad to see it in a fantasy au setting now

and it's not byler, but just for grins and giggles, i'm once again gonna rec sevensided's ronance one shot, nothing sacred / all things wild. i love this author's writing style, and she takes such an intense and interesting approach with these two characters by putting them in an FBI setting: Nancy is an agent recovering from a particularly traumatic mission, and Robin is her psychologist. they have a conversation and. well. Things Happen.

idk if you're specifically looking for recs anon, but if you're interested, i also have 2 fantasy aus and a vampire au i posted a few weeks ago!! they're some of my favorite things i've written and posted, and i really liked how the writing came out in them, so if you're interested, here they are:

honestly i think ive mentioned it before that they cut out a lot of moments between them in animated specials so i wouldn't be surprised if they cut out the moments i mentioned before out of the LA but then!!! the LA gives us little tidbits of different interactions between the two that gives makes my zonami heart flutter 🥹

I think ZoroxNami is a classic couple troupe that pretty popular when Eichiro Oda started One Piece series (1997)

It's around the same time Naruto started and Harry Potter published (Not shounen but It'll be relevant later).

Speaking about big three, we shouldn't left out one of their biggest shounen influence : Dragonball.

Especially if you look at MC's love interest, you'll notice similarities.

Chichi, Hinata, Hancock.

All three are black haired bombshell that obsessed with the MC who's kinda oblivious toward their feeling.

So, whats that get to do with our ship? Well for DBZ and Naruto, it's a fact that male and female Deuteragonist ended up together. (Bulma-Vegeta : Sakura-Sasuke)

Then Nami and Zoro gonna end up together too?

Unfortunately I don't think Oda will follow that far.

He stated early he won't make Nami fall for any of the crew. I'll hold on to that words.

However it's clear as a day that Zoro and Nami is such a good potential and Oda often throws nods to that cliche such as :

Matching color scheme (green & orange are complimentary color often used together)

Zoro's mom being from thief family

Nami santoryuu art.

And let's talk about that Arlong park pool scene.

it's the only one instance when Zoro put his life on the line-devoid of his power-for people other than luffy.

This scene emphasis that he get nami behind her thieving scheming mask. And I don't think any of the crew ever done that to her. It's a big thing that strangely missed out among fandom sphere.

Anyway, It made me think maybe at some point Oda consider the possibility for the cliche couple to happen but scrapped it afterwards? We will never know.

AND if we talk about LA, Hollywood isn't strange to the male-female Deuteragonist ended together either (Harry Potter, that's why I mentioned it before).

The bickering habit of two of them fit the Hollywood picture.

I won't be surprised if the director see something there, propose to give tiny nod to the troupe. Which Oda approve.

Plus the cast (Emily Rudd & Mackenyu) are too hot not to have some spark on screen!

I believe LA viewers would experience one piece differently than manga reader or anime watcher.

i'm honestly horrible at giving advice but i will try!

it's gonna sound clichée and all but - just go for it! even if it's just a small, silly idea - write it out, don't overthink what others might think.

write down anything that comes to your mind!

i have a doc specifically for snippets and blurbs that are just fleeting thoughts - dialogue, scene descriptions etc. etc. chances are that once you've written it down, you come back to it and flesh it out. or you have something that just perfectly fits into a fic in the future.

use prompt lists to get started! just googling like "smut prompts" or "fluff prompts" will give you many lists where you can pick and choose from.

what also helped me to find ideas is random conversations with friends, doesn't even have to be fandom related! engaging with others, or maybe drawing from your own life experiences all make for interesting and funny ideas.

browse google or pinterest, the most random moodboards or pictures will spark the most random ideas ngl.

start out small maybe. starting out with the biggest idea could make you feel overwhelmed. a few hundred words do the trick too and it makes you get comfortable with the whole process of writing and uploading something so it's not as daunting later.

don't force anything. don't feel the vibe of one story rn? put it down and continue or start with something else to do on the side until inspiration strikes again.

most importantly: do. not. compare. yourself.

seriously. it's difficult and man, i deal with it too. but a bunch of numbers on your stuff is not indicative of the quality of your fics. it's luck, really, and obviously it helps when people have friends that help share things around.

and ask for help if you need it! i'm sure many people are willing to help with all sorts of things or point you in the right direction, myself included 🖤

i used to write for years without publishing anything too, and i only really got the inspiration and motivation to share in this fandom ngl.

i still have hella anxiety to share stuff sometimes, btw, so if you worry about that, it really just is something you'll have to get used to. but it does get easier with time, trust me!

DEH fic that we're co-writiting and currently just gathering dust: okay right so y'all know the Dear Evan Hansen book/musical? I was listening to the sound track and it kinda fit Tim like it has Tim vibes so then I went to Quo and explained the plot of DEH and had an idea to write an au where Jason was Tim's tutor and when Jason died they called Tim over to tell them the news. Tim had broken his arm a few days ago and Jason signed it before he died so he just walked around with Jason's signature and I think it was Alfred who saw it and invited him to the Manor. And Tim kinda joined the family early by making lies that him and Jason were best friends but eventually the lies get out of hand and they find out that Tim was lying to them and everything spins out of control and now everyone hates him because he lied to the Wayne family and they feel betrayed

That's the best way I can explain it. There's probably a simpler way to explain it lmao. There's more to it but I don't wanna spoil to much. Quo if you wanna add some more, feel free to!!!

Personally I'm kinda excited for it, it looks like fun to write but my school work just gets in the way and makes it hard to work on it.

About the fanfic writing, it feels surreal sometimes. Like I didn't think I'd make friends when I started writing or when I got Tumblr and I did make friends and I love them so much. Having you as a writer friend is amazing. Quo I love you /p like our conversations can be wild sometimes with horses and oats but it's fun and I love talking to you. And wow that's wild I am an AO3 writer... With 4 fics published.. past me would be proud. Like idk when I started writing I never really planned to post my fics (and I still have fics that I have written a while ago that are completed that I just haven't posted) and now I published my fics and people liked them. Idk that's wild to me.
